1TO1 TEACHING-LEARNING Ltd Empowers Early Childhood Educators in Ruhango District

RUHANGO, RWANDA — Over the weekend of March 21 and 22, 2026, 1TO1 TEACHING-LEARNING Ltd successfully conducted a comprehensive two-day training program for Early Childhood Development (ECD) educators. The official mission, operating out of the Gasabo district, aimed to equip staff at the ITETERO Little Angels Center (LAC) with advanced teaching strategies and foundational child development principles.

Day 1: Building the Foundations of Early Learning

The weekend intensive commenced on Saturday, March 21, facilitated by Volunteer Instructor Anitha Meleka and Chairperson Habasa Ange Felix. Despite a delayed start caused by heavy morning rainfall, the team adapted their schedule and successfully established an engaging, participatory learning environment by the afternoon.

The first day focused on three critical educational objectives:

  • Core ECE Principles: Participants reflected on daily school practices that best support early childhood development.

  • Trauma and Stress Management: The group examined the causes of stress within school settings and discussed the vital role educators play as advocates for child protection.

  • Cognitive Development: Facilitators led an exploration into brain development and its direct impact on how young children absorb information.

“The session began with an interactive introduction activity in which participants shared their preferred names, games they played between the ages of 3–8… creating a welcoming, engaging, and participatory learning environment.”

The day concluded with reflective discussions where participants—including local educators Nepo, Josiane, Rosette, Chantal, and Michel—evaluated their teaching strategies and personal interactions with students. Due to a sudden family bereavement, Anitha Meleka safely returned home after concluding her Day 1 facilitation.

Day 2: Innovation, Local Resources, and Physical Development

The momentum continued on Sunday, March 22, shifting focus toward practical, hands-on classroom applications. A specialized team arrived to deliver expert insights and close out the training weekend.

The second day featured targeted sessions from 1TO1 TEACHING-LEARNING Ltd:

  • Innovation Cycles: Chief Learning Ndatimana Emmanuel guided teachers on evolving their instructional methods to maintain high levels of student engagement and classroom effectiveness.

  • Local Teaching and Learning Materials (TLMs): Chairperson Habasa Ange Felix returned to demonstrate how everyday, local items can be creatively transformed into highly effective educational tools.

  • Physical Development: Volunteer Instructor Giciro led a practical session emphasizing the importance of nurturing both fine and gross motor skills through daily caregiving activities.

Looking Ahead

The weekend mission fully achieved its expected outcome of training the ECD Center staff, leaving the ITETERO Little Angels Center team highly motivated. Participants walked away with actionable approaches to enhance their learning environments and a renewed commitment to professional conduct that reflects both individual and organizational excellence.
